1989
Posted by the RCMP to Abbotsford, B.C., Sensei Steve Hiscoe, a 3rd Dan Black Belt at the time, found little jiu-jitsu at this end of the country.
In desperation, he enrolled in a Tae-Kwon Do school but moved on rather quickly to join the Abbotsford Karate Club with Sensei Joe Worley.
In 1992, while visiting from Ottawa, Sensei Ed Hiscoe held a Jiu-Jitsu Seminar for Joe Worley's Abbotsford Karate Club.
It was so well received that Sensei Steve Hiscoe immediately made arrangements at Yale Secondary School in Abbotsford to use their gym for regularly scheduled classes.
At first, the students were almost all from the Abbotsford Karate Club, but gradually other people joined and the club grew.
As the club transformed into a school it moved out of Yale Secondary and rented space from the Abbotsford Judo Club and a the Jong-Kim Taekwon Do School in Abbotsford.
As the school grew the rental space became most inadequate so Sensei Steve and Sensei Aird Flavelle made plans to lease facilities to build their own Dojo.
The school moved in to the South Fraser Way location in November of 1996.
In May of 1999 the South Fraser Way dojo closed down in favour of a smaller dojo in Chilliwack, B.C.
At this time the black belts, Senseis Eric Enger, Lorne Olsen, Carlos Silva and Aird Flavelle moved to open their own Dojos.
In February of 2004, Sensei Steve re-opened his dojo at the Valley Shidokan Karate club which is owned by Sensei Don Sharp.
The club is still in operation at this location.
