Steven Hiscoe is a self-protection specialist and Jiu-Jitsu master. Recognized as one of Canada’s foremost Jiu-Jitsu instructors, he is gathering a loyal following in Western Canada.
He began his jiu-jitsu training as a 6 year old in 1975 when he started training at Therien Jiu-Jitsu in Ottawa Ontario. Sensei Hiscoe achieved the rank of 1st degree black belt in 1983. He assisted with many of the dojos programs and for several years he taught the children’s program under the direction of Sensei Ed Hiscoe.
In 1989, Sensei Steve was hired by a major Canadian Police Force, after basic training he was transferred to Abbotsford British Columbia. Sensei is regarded as a jiu-jitsu pioneer in British Columbia. He is responsible for some major accomplishment in the BC Martial Arts community, such as organizing the first multi-discipline martial arts symposium and the first person (with his business partner Flavelle Sensei) to host a “sport jiu-jitsu” tournament before MMA was introduced in BC. Shihan is also a co-founder of Jiu-Jitsu BC Society. Sensei Steve has conducted seminars all over Canada in addition to being guest instructors at several international martial arts events in England.

In 2008 Sensei Steve was promoted by Professor Sylvain (Founder of Can-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu) to the rank of 8th degree black belt.
Sensei was presented with his Can-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu Teachers License in July 2004 by O’Sensei Georges Sylvain the founder of the Can-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu system.
Shihan was also a member of the grading board which awarded the Founder of Can-Ryu Jiu-Jitsu Georges Sylvain with his 10th Dan.
Sensei is the owner and chief instructor of Hiscoe Jiu-Jitsu in Western Canada. He oversees dojos in Abbotsford and Sicamous BC in addition to Airdrie and Fort Vermilliion Alberta. Hiscoe Jiu-Jitsu has been a leader in providing self protection training in the Fraser Valley since 1992.
